The Cause and Effect of World War II
The end of World War I created anger, hate, and disunity between the world’s leaders. Also, many countries were suffering from the Great Depression after World War I. Many countries didn’t receive land they wanted after the war. Germany was blamed for the war, was stripped of land, and was in debt to many countries. Also, many of the world leaders such as the Soviet Union and Germany weren’t invited to participate in the Treaty of Versailles. All of these things led to the beginning of World War II. The war started September 1, 1939, when Germany invaded Poland. World War II concluded with the Battle of Berlin. The Soviet forces captured the city of Berlin, and there Hitler committed suicide. The effects of the war include the end of German aggression and punishment of Nazi officials involved in the Holocaust (Nuremburg Trials). After World War II was over the United Nations was created to replace the League of Nations and keep peace in the future. Another effect of World War II was the appearance of two new superpowers: the United States and the Soviet Union. The war had depleted many European countries resources and economies. However, the United States, due to boosts in industry and fighting on foreign soil, pulled out of the Great Depression and dominated the world market. The Soviet Union was not greatly affected by the war either. However, the rise of the United States and the Soviet Union as superpowers caused tension due to their differing views. Lastly, World War II helped the Women’s Movement in the United States. When all the men were drafted, women took the jobs and worked. When the war was over many women kept their jobs and supported themselves.
